Age Definition

12 and Under:

Players who were born on or after July 1, 2012.

13 and Under:

Players who were born on or after July 1, 2011.

14 and Under Division:

Players who were born on or after July 1, 2009 (15 years or younger) who shall neither have completed nor are in a grade higher than the eighth grade (8th) during the current academic year


Age Definition Notes

Age is, by definition, the age of the athlete ON JULY 1ST OF 2024.

Grade is NOT the primary determinant of age eligibility.

Athletes are NOT allowed to 'play down' [i.e. play an age level lower than indicated above, regardless of grade]

Generally speaking, Balboa Bay looks to keep athletes in the "peer group" (i.e. grade level) when possible but there are exceptions. As an example, we do not consider a 13 year old who is in 8th grade to be "playing up" if they play 14s

"Playing Up" - with few exceptions Balboa Bay does not have athletes who play up.
